The Classic Story Of The Cat And Mouse

For a long time, there lived this cat in this house in a quite little neighborhood in a quiet little suburb. The cat loved his life. It was the perverbial cat's meow. He would spend all day louging around the house. It seemed all he ever did was sleep and eat. His owners gave him all the food he could want, and expected very little out of him. Why, they even supplied him with catnip. Anyways, one day, a mouse was looking for a new home and decided that he liked the cat's house just fine. It had an abundance of food, it was nice and sturdy, and always warm even in the harsh cold winters. This mouse lived in the house for many weeks without anybody noticing. He would sneek out only at night and steal bits of food that the cat did not eat. Everything was fine until one night, the cat saw the mouse while he was going for a midnight snack. The cat hadn't ever really seen a mouse before, but he knew that it was a mouse and that cats hunted mice. From that day forth, the cat would try to lure the mouse out with food and do anything else to try to trap this prey. Many days passed and the only success the cat had was the few times he chased the mouse around until he was too tired to continue. Then the cat had an idea. He would stop his pursuit until the mouse went back to his usual late night feedings and then the cat would strike. More days would go by, and before long, the mouse would go back out at night to take food. The cat watched this for even a few more days just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. He then fully put his plan into action. The food was in a corner of the room, and while the mouse was helping himself, the cat approached and cornered the mouse.

The mouse realized there was no way to elude the cat now so he said, "Mr. Cat, why do you chase me?"

The cat replied, "Because I am a cat and you are a mouse. Cats eat mice."

"But do you not have plenty of food already?", asked the mouse.

"I suppose I do," said the cat, "but so what?"

"Well," the mouse said, "if you have enough food, I ask again why do you chase me?"

The cat though for a second and stated, "I am a cat and you are a mouse. Cat's chase mice."

"Some cats must chase mice, but I am not needed for food, and I am not destroying anything in your house. All I merely do is take a few pieces of you over abundant food to keep myself alive. You truly have no need to chase me. So with that I ask you once again why do you chase me?"

This required more thought from the cat. "It is my instinct to chase you, need be or not."

"It is also a cats instict to be independent, but you rely on humans to take care of you. If you can resist that instict surely you can overlook this one, so I ask you yet again why do...."

"I am sick of your mind games, rodent!", the cat interrupted, and with that the cat savagely ripped the mouse to shreads and ate it's remains. The cat then smiled hapily and went back to sleep by the nice warm fire place.
